I was going to write a first post explaining the purpose of this blog, the desire to learn more history without memorizing more dates. By focusing on one year around the world I would see not so much the linear development of singular nations and fields of endeavour, but the integration of what was happening with respect to the end of the age of exploration, the industrial revolution, the last days of the monarchy, the dawn of science and the foundations of my own country.
